The Carousel

A rotating solo pool where miners cycle across independent, spam-free block templates — and keep what they find.

Abstract

Conventional mining pools concentrate a dangerous power: the operator alone decides what every miner's block contains. The Carousel removes that operator. Independent Template Suppliers each publish their own clean block template, and the Carousel serves those templates to miners in rotation — a different sovereign block every cycle. A miner points ordinary SV1 hardware at one endpoint with their own address; when they find a block they keep 96% of it, on-chain, while the supplier whose template won earns 3%. No custody, no accounts, no single party dictating the block.

1 The problem with pools

Solo mining is fair but high-variance; pooled mining smooths the variance but hands one operator the right to construct every block. That operator chooses the transactions, and increasingly is pressured over what it must include or exclude. Miners contribute the hashrate that gives a block its weight, yet have no say in what they are hashing.

The fix is not another operator with better intentions — it is to make block construction plural. If many independent parties each offer a full, valid template, and hashrate is spread across all of them, then no single party decides what a block looks like. The Carousel is the mechanism that spreads it.

2 The rotating pool

The Carousel is a stratum endpoint on :30110 backed by a rotating template feed. At any instant it is serving exactly one supplier's block template to all connected miners. Every cycle — on the order of ~20 seconds, and immediately on every new network block — it swaps to the next active supplier's template.

Because suppliers republish on every block, the template you mine is always built on the current chain tip. Over a few minutes your hashrate touches every active supplier in turn. The live roster is visible on the Carousel page as a ring: one arc per active supplier, the bright arc being mined right now.

What the miner sees

Nothing unusual. It is ordinary stratum v1: subscribe, authorize with your address, receive work, submit shares. The rotation happens upstream — from the miner's side it is simply a pool that always has fresh, clean work.

3 Clean templates

Every template on the Carousel comes from a node running datacarrier=0 — no OP_RETURN arbitrary-data outputs. Templates that carry data payloads are rejected at the door, so what rotates through the pool is spam-free and sovereign: blocks a full-node operator chose to build, not blocks stuffed to order.

This is the difference between renting your hashrate to whatever a pool dictates and lending it to a rotating set of operators who each stand behind a clean block. You never mine someone else's dictated block.

4 Mining on the Carousel

Point any SV1 miner — GPU, CPU, or ASIC — at the endpoint, using your own Bitcoin address as the username. The address is both your login and your payout: a block you find pays you directly.

stratum+tcp://pool.pyblock.xyz:30110

There is no registration and nothing to install on the pool's side. Your address appearing in shares is your entire account.

5 The reward model

The Carousel is solo-style: you are paid when you find a block, not for shares averaged across strangers. When a block is found, its reward — subsidy plus fees — is split in the coinbase of that block, on-chain, the instant it is mined:

96%
Miner
the finder keeps it
3%
Supplier
whose template won
1%
PyBLØCK
pool fee

The template that wins is the one being served at the moment the block is built, so the winning supplier's 3% is written straight into the coinbase — no settlement layer, no payout batch, no custody. Each block's supplier and finder are both recorded and shown publicly.

Non-custodial by construction. PyBLØCK never holds a satoshi of the reward. The split exists only as coinbase outputs in the block you mined; if the pool vanished tomorrow, a block already found is already paid.

7 Get started

Mine the rotation today with the address you already control:

stratum+tcp://pool.pyblock.xyz:30110 · user: YOUR_BTC_ADDRESS · pass: x

To supply your own clean templates to the rotation — and earn 3% when miners find your block — see the companion paper, Template Suppliers. It takes one command and a BLAKE2b node.
